Environmental Advocacy, Volunteering, and Internship

Art in Tanzania’s Environmental Advocacy volunteer internship program encourages students to engage in sustainable community work, raise awareness of the environment and climate change, and be innovative in developing practical solutions to combat environmental concerns. Bring skills and knowledge you have built at university and apply them to real-world situations; develop and apply skills such as problem-solving, teamwork, organisation, and creativity. You can focus on different areas of environmental advocacy and tasks you are most passionate about. For example, your duties may include waste management and recycling, corporate social responsibility, education in schools and the community, planting trees and creating gardens with orphanages, and promoting food security. You will be allocated tasks and responsibilities by team leaders and focus on individual or group projects. We also engage in eco-construction activities utilising traditional construction and interior design materials. You can also perform urban planning and landscape development tasks.

Environmental Advocacy

Visit community schools to raise environmental awareness and prepare presentations and classes. Currently, climate change and ecological risks are not well understood in Tanzania. We are working to counter this. Participants also introduce new community-level technologies, such as constructing homemade solar cookers.

Please review the Climate Change Report prepared by our previous participant.

Waste Management

Waste management is poorly implemented in Tanzania. Work to help improve recycling, work with corporations initiating sustainable waste management approaches, and develop solutions you can introduce yourself.

During your term, you participate in practical programs, such as using second-hand plastic bottles to produce school fences.

Corporate Social Responsibility

Engage with Art in Tanzania’s corporate partners and involve new companies in environmentally responsible campaigns. Advocate responsible actions with local and international companies as part of the CSR program.

eco Construction, Landscape development and Urban Planning

We introduce you to African construction and interior design, utilising traditional materials such as mud, hay, rocks, and bamboo. You can also attend urban planning and landscape development tasks.
