The Art in Tanzania volunteer and intern compound is located on Umoja Road, in Madale Village, Dar es Salaam, providing participants with a safe, welcoming, and community-oriented environment during their stay in Tanzania.
Set within a peaceful local neighborhood, the compound offers an authentic cultural experience while remaining connected to nearby schools, healthcare institutions, businesses, and community projects where volunteers and interns contribute daily.
Sustainable Eco-Compound Living
Our compound is designed with sustainability in mind and reflects our commitment to environmentally responsible community development.
Eco-friendly practices include:
- Bio-grade sanitation systems
- Composting of organic waste
- Grey water recycling for garden irrigation
- Water-saving bucket showers
We aim to encourage environmentally conscious living while creating a comfortable and community-focused atmosphere for participants.
Accommodation & Facilities
The compound accommodates approximately 50 volunteers and interns in single rooms, double rooms, and shared dormitories.
All rooms include:
- Bed sheets
- Mosquito nets
- Flush toilets connected to environmentally friendly septic systems
- Bucket shower
Participants staying in dormitory accommodation can upgrade to a private single room for an additional €49 per week. The room can also be shared with a friend.
Community Spaces
The compound is designed to encourage collaboration, social connection, and cultural exchange.
Facilities include:
- Large garden and outdoor relaxation areas
- African-style communal spaces
- Bar and social area
- Meals combining African and Western cuisine
- Office area with free Wi-Fi
Our compound creates a vibrant international community where participants can work, relax, and connect with others from around the world.
Internet & Connectivity
Free Wi-Fi is available in the office area. However, as many participants may use the connection simultaneously, internet speeds can occasionally be limited.
For more reliable connectivity, we recommend purchasing a local prepaid SIM card with mobile data for personal smartphone use during your stay.

We provide participants with:
