Accommodation is a personal expense, payable directly to AIT.
Stipend
We are pleased to offer participants a monthly stipend of USD 50. While modest, this is equivalent to twice Tanzania’s national minimum wage — a reflection of our genuine commitment to recognising the contribution our interns and volunteers make to the communities we serve. The minimum participation period to qualify for the stipend is four weeks.
Lunches
Lunches are not included in your accommodation package, as participants are typically out working on their projects during the day. However, local eateries are plentiful throughout the area, with meals typically costing between EUR 1 and EUR 3 — making day-to-day living genuinely affordable.
Additional Costs
All of the following are personal expenses:
Airport transfer (arrival and departure) — EUR 12
Charity Invitation Letter visa — USD 50 (single entry, up to 3 months)
Multiple-entry charity visa (valid up to 12 months) — USD 250
Flights — international flights are arranged independently
Local transport — minimal if needed; public transport in the Dar es Salaam area is inexpensive
