The Dares Salaam Markets trip is part of the Art in Tanzania sustainable travel program. The task is to raise funds for the NGO community work as we operate as a self-sustainable entity.

A half-day trip to the Dar es Salaam market is an excellent way to find souvenirs. First, we will take you to Africa’s largest open market area at Kariakoo, including the fabric mark. Thereon, we continue to be the largest fish market in Dar es ala.  We visit the world-famous TingaTinga painters market and Makonde tribal Market to find traditional carvings and handicrafts.  In both markets, the artists are working in front of you.

What you may buy from the markets

At the Tinga Tinga market, the artists always paint new works, and there are large stocks of ready-made products to purchase. At the Makonde tribal carvers market, you find beautiful traditional sculptures made of ebony and other wood. But, of course, all purchases are to be bargained, and if you are not good at it, ask our guide to help you.

Remember to leave space in your luggage to bring it back home.
